THÈMES DE RECHERCHE
Depuis une quinzaine d’année, mes travaux de recherche s’articulent essentiellement autour de la caractérisation du fonctionnement à long terme (pluriséculaires) des écosystèmes boréaux. La forêt boréale constitue un des plus grands domaines forestiers de la planète, avec plus d’un milliard hectares de forêt qui ceinture l’hémisphère Nord de l’Océan Atlantique au Pacifique, au niveau du cercle polaire. Elle joue un rôle fondamental dans l’équilibre climatique de la planète en constituant notamment le plus grand réservoir terrestre de carbone, accumulé principalement dans des tourbières plurimillénaires. En corollaire, les incendies de forêt constituent l’une des perturbations majeures qui façonnent les paysages de la forêt boréale. Un des objectifs de mes travaux de recherche est de caractériser la variabilité naturelle des régimes de perturbation par le feu dans le contexte des changements climatiques en cours. Dans cette optique j’ai recours aux outils et approches de la paléoécologie. Je développe cette activité de recherche au sein de l’IRN (International Research Network) Forêts Froides. Notre consortium regroupe des chercheurs canadiens, russes, scandinaves et français. L’IRN est notamment le siège de formations d’étudiants de masters et doctorats en écologie forestière et gestion de la biodiversité, fondées notamment sur de nombreux stages de perfectionnement au sein du consortium.
A. Ali est aussi membre du Réseau de Recherche International Forêts froides qui regroupe maintenant plusieurs pays (France, Canada, Chine, Russie, Suède, Norvège).
