Gauthier, M. and Thomas, D.W. (1993) Relative success of two consecutive nesting attempts by a colony of cliff swallows (Hirundo pyrhonotta) at Sherbrooke, Quebec. Canadian Journal of Zoology, 71(5):1055-1059.

Résumé

Describes second nesting attempts by a colony of cliff swallows in Sherbrooke, the most northern record of successful second nesting attempts for this species. Laying periods for the first and second attempts ranged from 19 May to 7 June and from 2 to 28 July 1988, respectively. While the first attempt produced an average of 1.84 ± 0.17 (mean ± SE) fledglings per nest, the second one produced only 0.4 ± 0.17 fledglings. The low lipid reserves of parents prior to laying may explain the lower nesting success of the second nesting attempts. -from English summary
