BIOGRAPHIE

Je suis professeur à l’Université du Québec à Rimouski (UQAR); j'y enseigne et dirige un programme de recherche en écologie animale traitant de gestion et de conservation de la faune terrestre. Je suis aussi membre régulier du Centre d'études Nordiques (CEN) ).

Je détiens un baccalauréat en aménagement de la faune (UQAR), une maîtrise en sciences de l’environnement (UQTR) et un doctorat en biologie (UQÀM), ce dernier ayant porté sur les réponses d’oiseaux et de mammifères à la perte et la fragmentation de la forêt boréale. J'ai par la suite appliqué ce thème de recherche durant un stage postdoctoral à l’UQAR.

Mes travaux portent sur les impacts de l’altération des habitats sur l’écologie des grands mammifères (caribou forestier, loup gris, orignal, coyote et ours noir) et j'utilise comme principaux outils l’écologie spatiale, le comportement, la dynamique des populations et l’écologie du paysage.

THÈMES DE RECHERCHE

Je dirige un programme de recherche en écologie animale traitant de gestion et de conservation de la faune terrestre. Mes travaux passés se sont penchés sur les réponses d’oiseaux et de mammifères à la perte et la fragmentation de la forêt boréale. Mes travaux actuels portent principalement sur les impacts de l’altération des habitats sur l’écologie du caribou forestier, du caribou de la Gapsésie, du loup gris, de l'orignal et de l’ours noir en utilisant comme principaux outils le comportement (écologie spatiale), la dynamique des populations, la condition individuelle et l’écologie du paysage. Bien que mes travaux s'intéressent à tous les types de perturbations naturelles (e.g. feux forestiers, changements climatiques) et anthropiques (e.g. coupes forestières, villégiature, développement routier et industriel), mes étudiants, mes collaborateurs et moi investissons des efforts particuliers à mieux comprendre et atténuer les impacts cumulés des diverses formes de développement anthropique sur les relations faune-habitat et sur les interactions prédateur-proies.
