Présentation

De manière générale, mon programme de recherche porte sur le développement d’approches sylvicoles permettant la production et la valorisation du bois en tant que matériau renouvelable. À travers différents partenariats avec des industries, des communautés et des agences gouvernementales, j’ai développé une compréhension élargie de la qualité du bois qui m’a amené à identifier et caractériser des sources de matière ligneuse dont la valorisation s’inscrit en synergie avec l’objectif de mise en œuvre d’un aménagement forestier durable. Mes travaux utilisent les outils de la télédétection comme moyen privilégié de caractériser les variations spatiales et temporelles des conditions des forêts et des propriétés de la ressource ligneuse. Le package lidR pour R a été développé au sein de mon laboratoire, ce qui a eu un impact significatif sur ma programmation de recherche. Plusieurs de mes travaux récents ont utilisé les données issues du LiDAR aéroporté afin de caractériser la structure forestière à vaste échelle. Malgré cette expansion, ma recherche reste motivée par la nécessité de développer de nouvelles connaissances et outils pour optimiser les décisions sylvicoles. Mes travaux actuels visent également à adapter la silviculture aux réalités changeantes induites par les changements globaux. Pour contribuer à relever ce grand défi, mes travaux ont pour ambition de fournir des données, des outils et des solutions pratiques afin d’améliorer la résistance et la résilience des forêts à diverses perturbations et sources de stress, contribuant ainsi à la santé de ces écosystèmes et au bien-être des communautés qui en dépendent.

Je suis membre régulier du Centre de recherche sur les matériaux renouvelables (CRMR)  de l'université Laval et membre de l'Ordre des ingénieurs forestier du Québec. Avant de me joindre à l'université Laval, j'ai travaillé en tant que chercheur en bio-mécanique des arbres et en sciences du bois au sein de l'institut Forest Research  (Édimbourg, Royaume-Uni).
